What do we do in Portugal?

Building positive impact starts with action, awareness and protection. Through the Butterfly Foundation, Portugal Nomads supports four valuable initiatives in Portugal: Linha Vermelha, SurfCura, SOMAR and Save The Waves. Together, they create lasting change in several areas:

  • Climate & civic engagement (Linha Vermelha): we raise awareness of the climate crisis and strengthen the voice of local communities opposing harmful fossil fuel projects.

  • Inclusion & wellbeing (SurfCura): through therapeutic surf sessions, we give children and adults with physical or mental challenges access to the healing power of the ocean.

  • Coastal protection & education (SOMAR): through clean-up initiatives, education and research, we protect Portugal's marine ecosystems and inspire sustainable coastal management.

  • Ecosystems & surf spots (Save The Waves): we work to preserve vulnerable surf areas and coastal zones through active protection and the restoration of nature.

About the Butterfly Foundation

We offset our CO2 emissions through Greentripper

At Travelbase, we take our responsibility seriously by minimising our environmental footprint, supporting certified climate projects and promoting responsible travel. We also amplify the positive impact of our trips through the Butterfly Foundation.

We offset our transport emissions by contributing to Greentripper’s climate project.

85% of our trips take place in Europe and close to home.

We work with local, small-scale partners whenever possible.

1% of our profits is donated to charities.
